Does an RFID cat feeder read your cat’s implanted microchip?

Not automatically. The word “RFID” describes a technology, not which identifier a particular feeder can read.

The two identifiers are physically different

An implanted microchip sits under the animal’s skin and carries an identification number. A proprietary RFID tag hangs from a collar and belongs to a particular feeder system.

A feeder can use RFID technology and still be unable to read the chip already implanted in your cat. An existing collar tag is not automatically interchangeable with a different manufacturer’s feeder, either.

“RFID” is not a compatibility promise

A product title containing “RFID” is not enough evidence of implanted-microchip support. The useful questions are narrower: which exact model, which identifier, and which chip formats?

Timed dispensing and selective access solve different problems

Scheduled dispenser

A hopper releases measured portions at set times. The PETLIBRO PLAF301 combines scheduling with access tied to its included collar tag, but it does not read an implanted microchip and it is for dry kibble.

Selective-access bowl

A covered bowl opens when a registered pet approaches. SureFeed MPF001 and MiBowl CP500 control access to food already placed in the bowl; they do not dispense timed portions from a hopper.

What to confirm before you choose

  1. Exact model number. Similar names can refer to different generations or connected versions.
  2. Identifier language. Look for “implanted microchip”, not only “RFID” or “smart”.
  3. Supported chip format. Use the manufacturer’s checker or documentation where provided.
  4. Feeder job. Decide whether you need timed portions or selective access to a bowl.
  5. Food format. Confirm dry-only versus wet-and-dry use.
  6. Merchant terms. Recheck price, stock, delivery and returns with the seller.
